Buenos Aires, January 9 (NA) – The electoral board of the Justicialist Party (PJ) of the province of Buenos Aires met today to continue the debate process leading up to the renewal of authorities scheduled for March 15. It decided to request a judicial review of the status of the membership rolls. According to the Argentine News Agency, the request will be filed with the Federal Electoral Court 1, presided over by Judge Alejo Ramos Padilla, to purge the rolls according to an unmovable criterion: that eligible voters have been members for more than 180 days. In this sense, those who joined the party after September 17, 2025, will be excluded from the elections. The rolls must be ready soon, as they will be displayed from January 22 to 27, according to the defined schedule. The electoral board, led by the mayor of Malvinas Argentinas, Leonardo Nardini, is made up of 13 counselors: eight are aligned with Kirchnerism and five with the governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof. The decisions made by the body require the approval of two-thirds of its members, so the parties are obligated to negotiate to make decisions. In addition to Nardini, the board is composed of Juan Zabaleta, Cristina Álvarez Rodríguez, Marina Moretti, Mariano Cascallares, Verónica Magario, Avelino Zurro, Adrián Santarelli, Juan Pablo de Jesús, Rosana Sotelo, Liliana Schwindt, Carolina Correge, and Jorge Carpinetti. The most important decision the electoral board must make is whether a unified list will emerge for March 15 or if there will be an electoral competition. What is at stake is the succession of Máximo Kirchner in the leadership of the party at the provincial level. Kicillof seeks for that seat to be occupied by someone of his utmost trust who aligns the party with his administration and his presidential project for 2027. The top candidates are his vice governor, Verónica Magario; the mayor of La Plata, Julio Alak; and his Minister of Infrastructure, Gabriel Katopodis. The head of La Cámpora wants Kirchnerism to continue to control the party. This sector is supported by the mayors of Lomas de Zamora, Federico Otermín; of Moreno, Mariel Fernández; and of Malvinas Argentinas, Leonardo Nardini.
